112 | Motivation, Persistence, and Leadership: A Guide to Success

Let me tell you my story

I love projects that lead to international gatherings of leaders. I am at my best in conversations with groups where we share our wisdom, ideas and personal reflections. I enjoy exploring possibilities and applying creativity.

My greatest challenge has been to get a project (any project, really) out of my head and into the interest of others, to keep it alive there, to bring it to life together, to work on it, to develop it, and finally to see it through to completion, without having to go through constant setbacks or stagnation.

Have you ever experienced this?

Often it is difficult to keep others motivated at a high level of commitment and when they slack off, I often did too.

Time just flew by and the project sat there, ready to be resumed. Still, the time flew by.

It really hurt!

It hurt because I was telling people about the project. I wanted to move forward, but I didn't put my money where my mouth was. It hurt because my focus shifted. It hurt a lot because I started to question myself.

I tried X, Y, and Z

I tried working with Asana, Facebook groups, getting creative with pitch prep, pitching in person and online, talking to people, trying to motivate them, and trying to adapt my ideas to the realities of life. I started a small mastermind group, but it didn't take off.

As you can imagine, it was not going well. It was exhausting instead of inspiring. Nothing worked at that time.

International meetings are very important to me. Once they get going, they recharge my batteries. My energy level is high. The people I meet smile a lot and so do I. We meet as strangers and leave as friends. Remembering these great feelings, I decided to do something different.

I took a different approach

I joined a group of like-minded people, we arrange monthly phone calls, meet in person at least 3 times a year and spend a weekend together. We take minutes, we brainstorm a lot. We put on paper what we create.

I now use Trello to list everything that needs to be done. I check off what is done and keep track of what still needs time and effort.

We inspire each other by sharing our ideas, hopes, and dreams. We journey together and trust each other. We understand our own strengths and weaknesses. We have created a mission and vision statement and a website.

We send each other an inspirational card when we are feeling discouraged. We laugh a lot together.

We overcome all the barriers that pile up around us. Sometimes it takes a little longer, but we use them as stepping stones to go even further.

I have invested in myself. I studied conflict transformation and life coaching. Facilitated international events in Germany, France, Jordan, Israel, and Palestine. I read a ton of books and listen to a lot of podcasts.

I have added meditation, healthy eating, and exercise to my daily life. That alone is amazing. I feel so much better. I am more relaxed and trust my gut even more.

The biggest growth came from the coaching. I enjoyed Brendon's high-performance coaching. What sticks with me the most is being fully present when I am with someone else. When we share a moment, I am there with all my energy and attention.

Here's what it's done for me

CLARITY, Purpose Driven, Creativity Unfolding, Setting My Schedule, and Honoring My Self-Set Schedule. I speak with enthusiasm and aim to inspire others. I attract others to join me and we create amazing international events! Leaders around me step up to create more space for peace and friendship.

This has brought me to where I am today

I am a proud man enjoying successful international leadership events in Jordan, Israel, Palestine, Germany and France. Leaders who attend our events honor the struggle. They give feedback that they would travel with me again any time.

These events are successful because of my own clarity, the management of the project, the IT technologies that support the planning process, the reliable perseverance, and the belief that stopping is not an option.
