4 | What relationship would you like?

Imagine the roles you want to play with pictures, feelings and words. Give yourself a preview of your coming attractions. What you see, is what you get. Who you feel, is who you are. It is not what you are that holds you back, it’s what you think you are not.

Dr. Denis Waitley

So, it is that simple. Imagine the role you would like to play. Imagine it in pictures, feelings and words. Visualize what you want to have. And Waitley is certainly not the only one who says this.

Tony Robbins does it too. He calls it “Priming”. For priming, it is important that you already know what you want. You imagine the role you want to play, the relationship you want to have, the place you want to be, how you will feel when you have achieved it, and how you will talk to yourself then. During priming, you put yourself into a wonderful state of mind and then visualize your wish as already fulfilled. So, what kind of relationship would you like to be in?

What kind of partner do you wish for?

Michael Neill says something similar, and he learned it from Syd Banks. The thoughts you have shape your feelings, and your feelings become your actions. Neill calls Banks’ aha moment the Formula for Miracles. The formula is: Mind + Thought + Consciousness = Reality. Both say that if you want to create a new reality, such as a new relationship or a new love, all you need is a new thought.

This raises the question: If it really is that simple, why aren’t we all in wonderful relationships? Are there too few potential partners? Maybe. I don’t know. What I do know is that I wasn’t aware of all this. Until now, I have found my partners because things simply happened that way. We met, got to know each other and fell in love. And that was already wonderful.

Banks, Neill, Robbins and Waitley suggest taking matters into our own hands. Daring to live and taking more control over where life leads us. Taking control here means imagining, in beautiful detail, what we would like to experience and with whom. Then it is about actively and deliberately moving towards it.

It is important to understand that we are what we feel, because our actions follow from our feelings. So, if it really is true that we hold ourselves back or prevent ourselves from having what we truly want because we think, “But that’s not who I am,” then it is time to let go of that old, worn-out thought and simply embrace a wonderful new thought about ourselves. Trade the old for the bold!

Why don’t we simply give it a try? Let’s imagine beautiful, outstanding relationships!
